Prime minister tun dr mahathir mohamad said the government would open a new investigation on the findings of the human rights commission of malaysia suhakam on the disappearances of social activist amri che mat and pastor raymond koh.

He was one of a number of social activists who have gone missing during the same time period including pastors raymond koh and joshua hilmy who disappeared along with his wife ruth. Raymond koh is a christian pastor from malaysia who was mysteriously abducted in february 2017. Amri che mat is a malaysian social activist from perlis state perlis hope malaysia who was abducted on 24 november 2016. Their disappearances have received wide media coverage especially since the duo were allegedly involved in the propagation of shia and christian religious teachings.

On 13 february 2017 koh was abducted by a group of men in petaling jaya while on his way to a friend s house. International day of the victims of enforced disappearances fell on 30 august 2020. It was captured on cctv that at least 15 men in three black suvs were part of the abduction. Based on suhakam s 2019 report on its public inquiry into the disappearances of pastor raymond koh and amri che mat it was concluded that enforced disappearance had taken place.
