Are Floated Floors Quieter Than Glue Down Floors
Ok my back ground is intense and i have been installing glue down planks since 1976 by bruce village plank etc.
Are floated floors quieter than glue down floors. Is a floating floor more or less expensive than glue down. Quieter for your neighbors below. Floating floors are not directly fixed to the subfloor but are instead laid over an underlay without any glue relying on the weight of the floor and the floors joint system to keep it in place. In addition they re quieter for neighbors thanks to the insulation provided via an underlayment barrier and the air cushion between the floating floor and the substrate.
With a floating flooring installation the product is not actually attached to the subfloor meaning it may give off a hollower sound compared to that of the glue down method though the thicker a product the quieter it tends. The two air pockets between the flooring and underlay and between the underlay and the concrete break down sound transference. I was very impressed with your presentation as i have wanted to do that many times in my 40 years. These floors are easier both to install and to remove than glue down floors and they re also simpler to repair in the event of a problem.
Mike just watched your video. The floating method is not our preferred method of installation however it may be the best option if time or cost are of concern and it is also a wise. When working on a clean concrete subfloor the glue down method is often the go to choice. Glue down vinyl plank floors are less expensive per square foot than floating options but the cost savings is then offset by the fact that additional installation supplies are needed.
First luxury vinyl flooring whether glue down or floating is generally quieter underfoot than most hard surfaces. Boards adhere well to the rough surface of the concrete subfloor and therefore lead to less gaps or planks lifting and buckling. Easier to install especially for the do it yourselfer 3. Acoustical underlayments can add to the cost of the installation with a floating floor but in the end the total job cost should be slightly lower with a floating floor.
Floating floors are generally more expensive from a material cost but you will save money on adhesives and labor. If professional installation is used to complete the glue down process the total cost of product and installation could far exceed floating vinyl plank flooring. Install hardwood and engineered hardwood flooring can be installed using either the glue down or floating method. The glue down method of engineered wood flooring installation is typically the most common and creates a highly stable floor.
